Though counting is not complete for 2012, a trend has emerged that is worth passing on.  These data reflect shipments to the first point of sale in the market (that is, first buyer).  The second point of sale can include other cell and thin film panel manufacturers, installers, system integrators, end users, distributors and module assemblers (who buy cells).  It is important to be clear about what is being counted to avoid double or triple counting technology and oversizing the industry.  In some cases, inventory (demand side) is confused with shipments. Production is also sometimes confused with shipments (technology that left the factory).

Shipments for 2012 are ~25.4-GWp (the final count will be available in April)

Europe 2%

US 4%

Japan 11%

ROW 15%

Taiwan 18%

China 50%
